This is a great opportunity for you to dig out that special "File Cabinet" called the Family Bible and use it for something other than the storage of baptism certificates! Have someone look up a passage before dinner, read it and say a quick word about why they picked it. The Psalms and the Proverbs are great for this! Then say the blessing. Other ideas would be reading the daily reflections from The Word Among Us or another reflection book. Visit a relative in the hospital or nursing home. Or just call a relative that lives alone who would be excited to hear from you. Don't sit this Advent out!

But most of all heed the plan spelled out in the Gospel today: Plan to go to Confession. Why? Because the scriptures command it (James 5:16)! The proud always refuse it (Luke 7:29-30)! Jesus delegated his authority to forgive to the Church through his apostles (John 20:23). The grip of sin is weakened when brought to the light (Ephesians 5:8-11). Self-accusation is good for the soul (Psalm 51). Finally, Satan works undercover. When sin is exposed, he is exposed. The point is, the devil would NEVER tempt you to go to confession! You should wonder why! On Wednesday December 14th the parish will be having a Penance Service at 7:30pm. In all of your preparations for Christmas, plan to be there!
