Meet Father Pat			God's Blessings: More Than A Wish! Has anyone wished you a "Happy New Year" yet? I certainly wish that for you and I hope you do for me. But we can do better than that! How about a blessing from Scripture? "'The Lord bless you and keep you! The Lord let his face shine upon you and be gracious to you! The Lord look upon you kindly, and give you peace!' So shall they invoke my name among the Israelites and I will bless them" (Numbers 6:24-27).

I don't know about you but I will take a promise of God's favor and blessings at the start of the New Year over someone else's generic wish any day! The phrase "let his face shine upon you" literally means, "May God be smiling at you!" Have you ever seen this smile for yourself? I hope so! There is nothing like it in the world. I pray you see it as you begin this New Year; that you see God's love for you in very real and concrete ways!

On this Feast of Mary, Mother of God, you can be absolutely sure that Mary's prayer for you is the same. She has seen this smile (God's favor) directed at herself and she can see it directed at you; right here, and right now.

See it for yourself, smile back in return, and share God's smile with someone else who was convinced that God had no reason to smile at him or her. Leave the recipients grinning from ear to ear with the knowledge that they had God all wrong ~ that he DOES love and favor them, too! So, have a BLESSED New Year, my St. Augustine Family! Let us spend it blessing as many others as we can!
