Some of these are the person and role of the Pope; devotion to Mary; the Communion of Saints, the meaning and purpose of the Sacraments; and belief in the Holy Eucharist as the actual Body and Blood of Christ. On this Feast of Corpus Christi, we highlight and celebrate the gift of the Eucharist.

"God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son" John 3:16. The Father sent his Son into the world to become radically accessible to us! But God was just getting started! Being born into the human race was an unparalleled event in salvation history. But not even this would exhaust the extent to which God would go to be close to us and allow us to be close to him.

This is what the Holy Eucharist is about. As we pray and process around the neighborhood today, we do so with a message: God is with you! He loves you and wants to be close to you! All you who are hungry, come to Jesus and he will satisfy you.

Once, God sent a rainbow to reassure his people of his covenant (Gen 9:13). Now, he gives us the Bread of Life and the Cup of Eternal Salvation to remind us of the "new and everlasting covenant." And we, as a Eucharistic community, must be witnesses that God's love endures forever!
