How about you? Been in any storms lately? When the disciples of Jesus found themselves in a boat during a violent squall and saw that the water in the sea was beginning to fill the boat, they were more than ready to hear a word from Jesus ~ who was asleep on a cushion! Even though the bible says that God "never sleeps nor slumbers," circumstances can have us wondering sometimes!

In the end, Jesus rebuked the wind and the sea with the words: "Quiet! Be Still!" Interesting choice of words, don't you think? I can't help but wonder whether it was really the storm that Jesus was addressing. God spoke to Job out of the storm. I wonder whether Jesus wasn't doing the same thing with the disciples. That is, speaking to them in the midst of the storm: "Calm down! Get a hold of yourselves! I haven't gone anywhere! And where did your faith go anyway?"

The disciples may have been thinking that this whole scary episode could have been avoided had Jesus not suggested that they "cross to the other side." Couldn't he have just left well enough alone? Jesus is not big on complacency. God will never let us settle where we are until where we are is in heaven ~ with Him!
