Reluctantly, the servant complies. As a result, all are fed and there is bread to spare! The servant's obedience to the prophet becomes the passage way of God's generosity.

In the Gospel, Jesus and his disciples are faced with the task of feeding a crowd of over 5000 people. His disciples are overwhelmed by the magnitude of the task. Jesus is not. The source of Jesus' confidence is his unwavering trust in the presence of and the goodness of his heavenly Father. Because of this trust Jesus was always free to exercise a much underrated virtue: Obedience. Obedience is that virtue by which we relinquish control and submit to the will, authority and power of another.

A verse from a song entitled Sovereign reads: God can do anything he wants to do, when he wants to, and how he wants to because he is sovereign. But here's the question: Can God do these things through me? The answer is, only if I let him. A young boy's lunch placed in the hands of Jesus fed thousands. God's generosity cannot be measured, but it can be stifled in the heart that will not trust and will not obey. Surrender to his authority in your life, and without a doubt, the miracles will unfold!
