Father Pat's Sermon Notes

24th Sunday in Ordinary Time : September 17, 2006

Meet Father Pat			*What Do You Say?* Jesus asked, *“Who do you say that I am?”* How you and I answer this question will have a profound effect on who we are and what we become in this life. If you say that Jesus is just a man then he will never earn your absolute loyalty. If you say that he was just a prophet then he may gain your admiration but not your imitation.

If you say that he was just a wise rabbi then you will conclude that his crucifixion marked his last stand.

But if you acknowledge him as Messiah, then you admit your need for deliverance. If you believe he is Savior then you owe him your life. If you believe he is Lord then you are obligated to serve, worship and obey him.

If you believe that he is Love then you know that he will never fail you. If you believe that he is Truth then you know that he will never deceive you. If you believe that he is Hope, then you'll know that you must never give up. If you believe that he is Faithful then you will persevere in prayer.

Peter said to Jesus, "You are the Christ!" Then he proceeded to reprimand Jesus as if he were in charge! Without any hesitation, Jesus rebuked him right back! Jesus knew who he was, he also knew that Peter was out of line ~ literally. "Get behind me, Satan!"

The place of the disciple is behind the Master ~ not in front of him. Peter makes it very clear to all of us that in the end, it is not who we SAY Jesus is that matters the most, but whether we have the courage of our convictions and follow in his footsteps.
