Feast of the Nativity (Christmas): December 25, 2006

Meet Father Pat			Illumination A people in darkness have seen a great light says Isaiah the prophet. It is no accident that Christmas is celebrated by the display of an endless assortment of lights on our trees, houses, offices, stores, malls, town squares, churches, etc. Light is critical to our way of life and yet it is also one of those realities that we usually take for granted.

But if a black-out happens leaving us in the dark, then finding light becomes our obsessive preoccupation until we succeed! Many search for Jesus ~ and take him for granted ~ in the same way.

On Christmas we celebrate that Jesus is the light of the whole world, and at the same time the light that illumines each individual heart. Jesus is the light that scatters our darkness. He is also the light that conquers our fears. Jesus is the light that brings hope to the poor. He is also the light that illumines the way for us to reach out to them. Jesus is the light that reveals to us the truth; he is also the light that gives us the courage to tell it.

Jesus is the light that brings attention to injustice; he is also the light that shows us how to correct it. Jesus is the light that motivates us to tell the Good News; he is also the light the challenges us to put it into practice. Jesus is the light that calls us to forgive; he is also the light that shows us we've been forgiven.

Christmas is the day we celebrate the birth of Christ our Light. Being a light for others is the way we demonstrate that we know WHY he came in the first place!
