What are we prepared to risk for the deepening of our relationship with Christ? How seriously do we take the words of Scripture? The Magi found their Savior and for the first time in their lives they were anything but lost.

In discovering Christ they found peace, a new sense of purpose, and a resolve to change whatever was necessary to serve him for the rest of their lives. If it meant renouncing a former king then so be it. If it meant changing the route (the direction) of their lives then they were prepared to do it.

The Church here is called to be for Washington DC what the star was for the Magi, a light shining in the darkness. Like a star we are called to be a reality that gives direction to those lost in the darkness and an entity that is on fire for God!

Just as the Magi found the star before finding the Light of the world, many people may be drawn by the parish even before discovering Christ's presence here. They'll say I came to hear the choir! Or I came to hear the preacher! Others might just admire the architecture of the church and come in to see what it looks like inside! Why people come is not important as long as when they leave they are paying their homage to Christ and not to us!
