SIGNED, SEALED,
and DELIVERED!
Among the Hebrews, the act of anointing was significant as a form of
consecration to a holy or sacred purpose;
hence the anointing of the high priest, sacred vessels, kings and prophets.
For Christians, Jesus the Christ (literally, anointed one or Messiah)
is anointed not with holy oil but with the Holy Spirit
(Isaiah 61:1; Mark 1:8). In Confirmation, WE are anointed with Sacred
Chrism as the bishop says: “Be Sealed with the Holy Spirit.” |
