This is despite the fact that the scriptures specifically instruct us to draw our strength from the Lord and his mighty power (Ephesians 6:10).Prayer is not an option for the person who is serious about his or her relationship with Jesus Christ and who wants to be victorious in the battle against temptation, sin and Satan.

Through prayer, we explicitly invite God into our daily life and circumstances. But notice God is not the only one who shows up! Through prayer, we discover that the saints in heaven also have our backs! (Hebrews 12:1). Out of nowhere, two of the greatest champions of God in the Old Testament are suddenly standing with the apostles and Jesus!

But prayer is not primarily about what we do. It is surrendering us to what God is doing. This is why our prayer time must become less about "me talking" and more about "me listening." Through prayer, we place ourselves in the very seat of God's omnipotence to be overcome with how utterly amazing God is!

Jesus wants us (as he did the apostles) to experience God to be greater than our fears, deeper than our worries, and brighter than our darkness. Jesus led his closest companions to a quiet and out-of-the-way-place to pray. He invites us to a place called "Lent" where we would go out of our way to listen to his saving voice through the silence of prayer and the richness of his Holy Scriptures
