A grandmother will spend her retirement years raising her grandchildren because their parents aren’t around. A soldier would jump on a grenade to save his comrades from certain death. A Christian would forgive his enemy simply because Christ asked him or her to.

“The Apostles left the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that they had been found worthy to suffer for the sake of the name” (Acts 5:41). We would all like to think that in the face of danger, we would do the right thing even if it required extraordinary courage and great risk.

Martin Luther King once said, “A man who has found nothing for which he would die is not fit to live”. It was precisely Christ’s willingness to die for our sakes that demonstrates the depth of his love for us. So the question for us is the same question that the Lord asked Peter three times: Do you love me?

He said “Yes!” ~ With a passion! This means that he was prepared to suffer anything before he would ever turn his back on Jesus again. Jesus told Peter that a cross was awaiting him if he remained his follower. Peter replied that it would be an honor!

If you have never really been in love, then you will conclude that Peter and the other Apostles were simply crazy. But if you have known true love, you will know that when it comes to loving and serving God ~ you are crazy not to!
