Since the beginning Satan, appropriately described by Jesus as ‘the father of lies” (John 8:44), has tried to seduce men and women into believing that they don’t need God. When we believe the devil’s hype we sin. You know--sin, that little word with the big “I” in the middle! While we are baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, we too often find ourselves offering our true homage to the less than holy trinity known as Me, Myself and I!

Is it any wonder, then, that despite Jesus’ explicit instructions that we still refuse to “Ask,” don’t bother to “Seek,” and fail to “Find”? Are we really so naïve as to believe that WE have the answer for world peace; that WE have the solution for global poverty; that the key to true happiness and fulfillment rests in US?

Has history not taught us over and over that when WE play God, very bad things happen--like, the widespread exploitation of the weak, mass murder, hoarding of the world’s resources, or famine, war, the reduction of human beings to an expendable commodity?

One of the wisest things that the disciples ever said to Jesus was, “Lord, teach us how to pray.” People don’t make such a request without first acknowledging their need for God. Abraham was not too proud to plead with God on behalf of his people and we must not be too proud to obey the Lord when he commands us to ask, to seek and to knock ~ everyday!
