It’s as if God is saying, “Hello!! Remember me? The One, who made you, saved you and sustains you?” Remember Egypt? Pharaoh’s army with his chariots and charioteers? How about the Pillar of Fire or the Red Sea and the parting of the waters?

How quickly we forget that God is second to none and present to all, the mover of mountains and the master of the impossible. The problem with forgetting the power and fidelity of God is that it immediately follows that we must lay aside the mission to which he has called us because we will inevitably come to the conclusion that it is impossible for US! Why? Because it is impossible for us ~ but not for God (Mark 10:27). Without this faith we can neither please God (Hebrews 11:6) nor carry out his works.

What is this work? St. Paul states it straightforwardly: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners (1 Tim 1:15). This is the mission and purpose of the Church founded by Jesus Christ (Matthew 16:18). There is no higher calling (Philippians 3:14) and no greater mandate (Matthew 28: 19-20). The lost coin must be found. The lost sheep must be sought after and the lost son must be welcomed upon his return and be fed that heavenly food that lasts unto eternal life!
