Our Mission
As the Mother Church of Black Catholics in the Nation’s Capital, St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church is called to witness our faith in the Living God, His Son, and the Holy Spirit while preserving our Black Catholic Heritage. We are a strong community of believers who continues in the tradition in which it was founded: to advance the education of our children; lead ALL people to a personal and life-changing encounter with Christ through the proclamation of the Gospel, celebration of the sacraments, prayer, and service; and promote the spiritual, economic, and social development of all people.
Jesus himself once said: “I was a stranger and you welcomed me” (Matthew 25:35). Let us keep in mind that true hospitality is not primarily about welcoming someone into your house, but making room for them in your heart. . .
