Father Everett Pearson, a beloved Catholic Priest in the Archdiocese of Washington for more than 30 years, went home to the Lord just over a year ago on August 23, 2022. He was also a colleague and personal friend of a fellow black Priest and native Washingtonian, Fr Patrick Smith. Fr. Pearson was born on October 2, 1960 in Washington D.C. and was ordained on November 17, 1991 at the Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle, also in Washington. He was raised in Nativity Parish, attended the parish school and in 1978 graduated from Archbishop Carroll High School. Through the years, Father Person was assigned to Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Takoma Park, MD, Saint Matthias Parish, Lanham, MD and Assumption Parish, Washington, D.C. before becoming Pastor of Holy Name Parish, Washington, D.C. and since 2009, Pastor of Mount Calvary Parish and Administrator of Holy Spirit Parish, Forestville, MD. Upon learning of Fr Everett’s death, Fr Smith was informed that Fr Everett requested for him to be the homilist at his Vigil Mass which took place the night before the Funeral Mass at 10am at Mount Calvary Catholic Church.
The following is a recording of Fr. Smith’s homily and tribute to a good friend and a beloved priest who loved his priesthood and the people he served to the end… Well done good and faithful servant, well done.
